Re: How do I remove stuck thermostat cover Evinrude? There are 2 hexes on the t'stat caps if I remember. The larger one is 1- 1/2" and you can use a large socket and a breaker bar or an impact gun. If it has been really neglected, the shank may shear off and the threads remain in the cylinder head. If so, you will have to chisel out the pieces bit by bit until you can remove everything. Clean out any debris using a vacuum with a small hose to get the last of the plastic pieces out. Use a small wire brush to clean the salt out of the threads in the head.
Use plenty of Triple Guard grease to coat the threads when you install the new caps and inspect those thermostats at the required 100hr or annual servicing.
