Default Yamaha 130 making a ticking noise when ideling

My mechanic said that my compression is good in all 4 cylinders. Engine starts just fine. He said cylinder #1 is the faulty one. Something about a wrist pin? Does this make sense to you? What causes something like this to go bad. Is this a major rebuild and worth the cost? Is it just age as the engine is a 1992. Is it an over heating thing as it ran on the muffs with no water for a few minutes in the driveway...Don't ask me how that happened..

Thanks...

If an early Yamaha is overpropped and/or overloaded, the wrist pins take the brunt of the detonation force. Back about that time Yamaha changed thier oil formula to help combat the wrist pin wear problem. Actually, since the writst pin is steel and the piston is alumnum, it is the piston that wears, elongating the hole where the pin goes through.

Some engines will run forever even with the knocking, and others do not.

Thanks. Another question. Do I have to do a total re-build of all 4 pistons or can I get by just repairing the one? It's a 1992. Is it worth the money to rebuild? I was quoted $2500 for all new pistons etc. What would you do if it was your engine. I can purchase a used 2001 115hp Yamaha for $3000.00 that has roughly 200 hours on it...

Since one piston is stressed, change out all 4 to do a compete job.
