Default 250 and 300 HPDI questions

Several used boats I am looking at are powered by mid-2000's 250 and 300 HPDI's. I know the 300's have updates for the problems. Were these the same issues for the 250? What were the isues?

If the motors did not have a problem and the upgrades have been done, are these motors reliable, or should I walk away?

Thank you!

That is a hard question to answer as some original owners of the big block HPDI 's are doing fine, yet others, even with the mods, have had multiple powerhead problems, usually #2 or #4 cylinder.

Because of the reputation of those 2 motors, I'd be very leary, or make sure they are purchased for the 'right price'

Thank you very much - If i buy one these boats I cannot afford to repower if the motors give out, so I will pass on these - thank you for your candor.

To me the boats with 300 HPDI are deal, you basically get the motor for free.

If the engines are running well now and recalls have been performed you should have a good shot at running them for at least a couple years.
