Default 2000 225 Ficht-fuel pumps

Is there a slow speed and a high speed fuel pump?

The last few times out the motor starts to shake and almost dies at idle speed, in gear but at the slowest speed. It catches itself before stalling. And this is after idling around quite a bit. Plugs were changed not that long ago.

Then when I run in for the day and dock, no problem with a lot of neutral, forward reverse, etc.

Just curious if something is about to go or if maybe the plugs are fouled due to alot of the idle speeds I have been doing.

Thanks.

there is the lift pump which is the diaphragm operated pump that "sucks" the fuel from the boat tank. There is an electric "high pressure" pump that delivers fuel to the injector plumbing and that is regulated to about 20-30 psi.

Check your plugs first. If the gap is much above .028 it will run poorly. Also make sure the thermostats are working and the cylinder heads are above 125°. Installing E-TEC thermostats for a 225 may help as they run a bit warmer.

When was the last time the exhaust pressure sensor tube was removed and checked for carbon blockage? That should be done with the other maintenance required at every 100 hr. service interval.

Thanks for the response.

I have run it over 400 hours and to my knowledge we have only done plugs, l/u oil and cleaned the EMM for water (cooling) blockage.

Will check it out.

i am having similar problems with my 99' ficht 115 (140 HRS) in addtion to that after i've been running and turn the engine off it has trouble restarting- doesn't want to fire then once it fires reaves up to about 3-4k rpm then comes down to normal idle about 1500.(no problem with cold start) any experience with that beast. planning to take to evenrude mech with a ficht diagnostic computer in a few weeks but any knowlege or opinons would be much appricated.

Get it to a trained mechanic right away. The high rpms on startup hurt the motor and are probably caused by a pinhole in the fuel pump diaphragm or a leaking vapor separator valve. In either case the problem is allowing extra fuel into one or more cylinders. 1500 is way to fast for idle, it should be about 6-700 rpm.
