Default thanks for the advice! 2004 F60 Yamaha

I changed the lower unit oil yesterday: seemed low to me but was still about the same as it was when I put it in (not milky) the lower screw was missing the fiber gasket (I must have screwed up when I changed the oil last fall) evidently some had leaked out. I went to a local Yamaha dealer to get the gasket (My selling dealer is about 60 miles away). This dealer said I would void my warranty on the F60 by using BG ULTRA GUARD SYNTHECTIC GEARCASE LUBE. I called the dealer who I purchased the boat from and he said that is not correct; I tend to believe my selling dealer; who is correct. thanks p.s. by the way no more grinding!

Yamaha specifies either their own gear lube or an equivalent SAE90 Hypoid oil. I am not familiar with your brand of oil. The only way you would not be covered would be in the rare event that your gear oil did not lubricate like a Hypoid 90 and a failure was the direct result of lack of lubrication. The oil would not affect any other warranty items on the motor.
