Default 2004 YAMAHA QUESTION

When leaving the dock this morning I noticed some grinding going from neutral to reverse on my 60hp Yamaha. My first thought is to check the lower unit fluid when I get a chance tomorrow. Am I being paranoid or is this normal. Never noticed it before and it doesn't do it from neutral to forward. Thanks for any help my dealer is over 90 miles away.

It's possible that the shift cable and shift linkage has worn enough to require adjustment, assuming that you shift briskly into gear and not try to ease it in. Is the motor idleing at the correct rpm, too?

Everything seems OK; I don't have a tach but it sounds as usual. Like I said goes into forward fine only in reverse do I get any grinding: Does it seem to you I could rule out either low or contaminated lower unit fluid? The boat is trailered and is never docked; also its fresh water only. Thanks for the quick response. Joe

Go ahead and check the fluid to be on the safe side. If it's a year old or close to 100 hours, just change it.
