Default coil testing

How do you test the coil and/or PP? My 02 mercury is surging especially after it runs for 15-20 minutes and was suggested to test these but not sure how. Thanks for your help. I am also going to check for fuel restrictions.

Default RE: coil testing

You need a special tester to do the coil on your motor. Substituting a coil is the quickest way. The power pack has to be tested on the motor. The actual pack testing rules everything else out and the pack is left. It boils down to everything going into the pack is good, but not good coming out, then the pack is bad.
