Default new to me boat + problems

hi everyone, i'm new to this site. i just bought a 1999 robalo 19' c.c, with a mercury 125.. when i looked at the boat, the owner and I ran it on ear muffs, and it ran good considering that it had sat for 2 years.. When I took the boat out for the first time, it would still idle fine, but then when I got on the throttle the boat wouldn't even come off plane. at full throttle I was going maybe 10 MPH.. I took the boat to a mechanic here in my town, and he said its probably the carbs. so he rebuilt the 4 carbs, and then took the boat out on a test run twice and said it still wasn't running properly.. he said the gas in the tank is good, and its getting plenty of gas, he thinks it might be an electrical problem,, the tach and speedo are working on and off.. he said he's topping out at 3000 RPMs. he said the compression meets the specs for all 4 cylinders, and hes not sure what the problem is, has anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas what may be causing this, any ideas would be helpful.. thanks

Sitting for two years did not help the motor. Spark advance linkage could be stuck, the carbs may not have been cleaned completely, a fuel pump may be weak or the boat's fuel system restricted, a plugged filter, inadequate ignition to each plug, etc. Not to make anyone mad, but it sounds like your mechanic is not trained on that motor and is doing a guessing game. It is fairly easy for a good tech to determine if there is a fuel or an ignition problem with a motor and to troubleshoot from there. Find a qualified Merc mechanic and I think they can find your problems easily.
