250 Yamaha HPDI ...Fuel:Oil Ratio - The Hull Truth

I seem to be burning more than the 50:1 ratio. Have 20 hrs on new powerhead, should the oil rod be adjusted after break in? If so, how difficult is the procedure? Should it be brought to Yamaha mechanic? Thx

Yes, the rod should be adjusted after 10 hours. Unless you have the service manual and religiously follow it step by step, it is best to have a trained Yamaha mechanic check the oil link rod for you. Luckily it does not take to long so you may only be charged 1/2 hour for the procedure. Did they install a new oil pump per the recent service bulletin concerning the 250 HPDI?

yes, I believe the oil pump was replaced. Was that the bulletin that went out last fall? thx

Yes, most big block motors like yours usually get around 40:1 instead of 50:1 like the smaller motors do.
