Re: anchor rode wrapped around prop I doubt the rope caused the water in the oil problem, unless it damaged the propshaft seal somehow. A pressure and vaccuum check will show where the leak or leaks are. Unless you have the manual, press, and a few special installers or removers, it is best to have a professional do the seals.
The wound up rope could cause a bent shaft or deformed blades on the prop to make it feel funny. A professional can put a dial indicator on the shaft and check for any runout. The prop should be sent off to a repair shop for inspection.
On a regular rotation gearcase, there will be in and out play on the shaft, and with wear, perhaps a very small up and down movement.
