2000 evinrude 200 hp FICHT keeps stalling - The Hull Truth

I have a 2000 200 hp evinrude FICHT. I just recently took it out of winter storage (marina maintained). i told the marina to do a tune up and change the fluids and plugs etc. He told me he changed the fuel filter, tuned the engine, and changed the gear oil. just after leaving the marina i throttled up and the about 20 seconds later the check engine light came on and the motor throttled down on its own. so i was running at 5mph to get to my slip for about 10 minutes when the engine stalled completly. i tryed to get it started but i got nothing. finally after letting it sit for 10 minutes it started without a problem. then it ran for another few minutes and stalled again. i had to let it sit again for another 10 minutes before it started. finally i got it started and back to my slip. any answers anybody can give me would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

steve you have to hook up the motor to a laptop with the proper software and retrieve
the error codes then you will be closer to the answer
post the codes and I have the service book for your model
go get the software
try ebay

The CHECK ENGINE light coming on is just like the one in your car, it can mean all kinds of things both serious and not so serious. Because the motor slowed down to a safe rpm it says that your problem should be looked at right away. A technician with a laptop is needed to find out what error code(s) is stored in the motor's computer. Take it back to the dealer.

From your description, my guess is the cooling lines going to the computer are plugged or restricted and the EMM (computer) is getting too hot. It could also mean water in the fuel filter, voltage too high or too low, a bad engine sensor, etc.

last summer before winter storage my mechanic read the codes and mentioned to me that my cooling lines were clogged he told me he had cleaned them out but i guess maybe he didn't. i no longer employ this gentleman due shoddy workmenship. is it possible for me to clean the cooling lines out myself? how complicated is it for someone who doesn't know too much about outboards? is it expensive to fix if i have to bring it to a mechanic? thanks again for all the information.

Just follow the lines from the upper and lower computer
dissconnect and blow out with your mouth
or use a wire
you may have to remove the lower cowling
I wouldnt do anything till you get the software and a laptop
