Default 2004 yamaho 200 hdpi question

just purchased a boat with twin 200 hdpi's, never owned these before. took the boat to a local mechanic and he tells me that the lower unit seals have gone bad and i need to have the seal kits for both engines. being used for 3 or 4 years it probably does, but my question is that he quoted me 250 bucks for each kit. no labor. every where i have reasearched the kits are around 80 bucks and shipping was never more than 20 dollars and thats rush ordering it. does anyone have experience with having these seals replaced and the cost associated with it? i may be looking at the wrong kits?? any info would help thanks.

His kit price sounds high. Most of the time only the propshaft seals go bad often from fishing line wrapped around the shaft. If that is the case, then you only need to replace those 2 seals and an oring.

Ask the mechanic to pressure and vacuum test the gearcase and only replace what is actually leaking.

The price for the seal kit is around $79, plus about $59 for a water pump kit, $10 for gear oil, a prop cotter pin and about 2-3 hours labor if no saltwater corrosion or other problems show up.
