Question about oil tank filter - The Hull Truth

Hello,

I have been doing most of the preventitive maintenance on my 2000 OX66 outboard. Upon reading some threads I noticed something about the remote oil tank having a filter that needs to be cleaned. My question is, where is this filter located??? Is it near the remote oil tank or the oil resevoir on the engine? Should I clean the filter or replace it??? I have had some problems in the past with the VST filter so I understand the importance of keeping the filters free from obstruction. Thanks for your time.

It is best to replace the filter instead of cleaning it but in an emergency, anything goes.

You have to remove the tank from it bracket as the filter is on the lower side of the oil tank. Have a couple of small ty-raps at hand along with the filter. Make sure there is no sludge in the bottom of the tank.
