Default 2002 Yamahas F225

I have twins on my 31 F/A Contender both run great ,but when Idling the port engine starts to warm up a little to the half mark on the gauge at this point the hot horn goes off ,I have noticed that if I kick it in neutral and raise the rpms to about 2k the horn goes off and the temp gauge returns to normal ,if I shut it off for 10 min or so the engine cools and get the same result, also the starboard engine when starting does not have the horn notfication when starting, only the port engine has the initial horn warning showing that it is in working order is this correct or does each engine have its own horn Thanx Chris

The first thing should be a complete servicing of the cooling system. Install a new water pump kit, factory not aftermarket, new thermostats, and clean and check the pressure relief valve.

If everything has been done and checked out, but it still overheats ONLY at idle but is fine just above idle, then you may have exhaust mid-section corrosion that is allowing exhuast gases into the colling water. At higher rpms, the water pressure is high enough to keep the exhaust out. In that case a dealer would have to remove the gearcase and look up into the engine and possibly pull the powerhead and inspect the exhaust area. It's not a real common problem with the F225 series but it is starting to show up as the motors get a few years under their belts.
