Default salt deposits on the motor

A1,
1996 200 ocean pro with what looks like salt deposits running down the back left side of the motor. The spark plugs are rusted and nasty looking. I removed them, everything looks fine from the threds in. Just some how salt water is entering under the cover some how. Thanks for any help.

Look at the transom, I'll bet there is a big transducer somewhere near the motor. Especially those with a speed wheel throw up a spray alongside the motor and the "station wagon rear window effect" allows the saltwater to get sucked into the air vents. On the back inside of the motor cover is a channel for the air to come in and the openings run right in line with the sparkplugs.

Wash the block carefully with warm water and something like Simple Green to remove the salt crystals. Then run the motor for a while to warm it up and dray things out. Then use a protective spray on the motor to stop any corrosion.

I have similar issue.

What spray and how do you spray it? Just spray everything visible with cover off?

Silicone spray, don't use an oily or greasy spray.

Silicone spray ok to use on/near rubber?

Should I be spraying the entire engine underneath the engine cover?

Thanks.

Silicone is the only safe spray for rubber and plastic. Dont' soak the starter Bendix, though, keep any liquid away from the top of a starter motor.
