Default idle speed

HI, I have a 1997 E-rude 200 ocean series that seems to idle too fast, what is a good rpm for idle speed ? also, what is the correct way to adjust ? Finally, we had the water pump replaced this year, had nice stream from rear of motor, now it dribbles out, has good pressure & no overheat. I guess it is clogged ? How do I clean it ?
Thanks,,GC

Default Re: idle speed

Idle should be 650-750 in gear in the water, not on a flusher hose. Most tachometers are not accurate at that low rpm so a shop tach or a professional tech should be used to determine the rpm.

Remove the flusher fitting on the back of the motor, don't lose the oring, and you might find sand or debris in the cavity and in the "pee-hole".

Hi, thanks for info, there was sand in the hole, cleaned it & ran on the hose tester for a while. We loaded the boat during low tide the last time. I may live with the slightly faster idle.
