Re: 1988 225 Evinrude Problem The chirping noise is probably a bad pickup sender inside the oil tank. The electronics will cause all kinds of signals when they go T.U. Trace the wires from the tank to the motor and disconnect them at the motor. You can visually watch the oil level instead of relying on expensive electronics.
It sounds like your motor has hot had full maintenance for a while, do it all, pump, t'stats, tune, decarbon and test the charging system to make sure it's not delivering a faulty tach signal.
