Default Johnson 225 Idle Prob

Went out yesterday, same-o, same-o.
Runs fine at speed, as soon as you hit neutral, she stalls. Which makes docking a whole lotta fun. The only thing I haven't tried is the de-carb, which I will now (Seafoam spray).

Symptoms: On warmup, idles for a few seconds then catches and quits. Ok at fast idle tho. Coming out of gear, almost always stalls. Runs fine at cruising speed.

decarb two times using the factory's Engine Tuner with the threaded nozzle.

What is the model number of the motor?
What temperature is each cylinder head?
What are the carbs adjusted at?
What spark plugs and gap are installed?
etc. etc. etc.

New plugs and gapped per shop manual.
I have 2 cans of Sea Foam Deep Creep. Haven't de-carb'ed yet tho...
Have not touched idle speed adj or carb adjs as engine was running fine last Summer.
It was checked (compression, etc) last Fall and found to be in good condition.

Thanks,
O

You will get better low speed running by using the factory recommended plugs which are QL78YC gapped to .030".

Thanks A1
Actually, that's what was in there, but replaced them with the shop manual recommendation for v6 oil injected engines.
Switching back will make a difference?

In this order: Decarbon the motor 2 times first, install the correct plugs, test each cylinderhead for proper temp, perform the factory synchronization settings and timing, adjust carbs, rebuild carbs with factory kits, check reeds, , test recirculation valves, do a leakdown test if all fails and compression is OK.

Make sure all idle adjustments are done in the water, not on a hose flusher.

Use ONLY the factory service manual, NOT an aftermarket one.
