Re: 2000 150hp Johnson Ocean Runner Question A failed vacuum switch does happen but it's pretty rare. The quick way to check it is to us a Mity-Vac vaccum tool hooked up to the switch. Either use an ohmeter on the wires or turn the key to ON with the motor not running and pump the Mity-Vac until the ohmeter shows continuity or the CheckEngine lite comes on. It should come on at about 6" Hg. If it comes on lower or higher than the 5-7 Hg range, then the switch is faulty. As it would be if you see any leakage from it.
