Default 250 ETEC - 4 Blade Prop

I have twin 2007, 250 etecs on my 29 ft Hydra Sport CC. I am looking to upgrade to 4 blade props over the standard stainless three blade prop that comes with the motor.

I have recently purchased two Cyclone, 14- 1/4 X 19" props (direct replacement size for my motors), part numbers 177191, 177192. These props were originally shipped by the manufacturer in January, 2005 to a dealer.

I have been told by several people that these are an old design prop that have now been superseded by a newer version prop and that they will not work on my 2007 motors because they will spin the hubs.

Is this correct and if so, which part number should I be looking for and what motors would my props work with if I were to try to sell them to someone else.

Thanks for your asistance,
Dave

Fin, I doubt you'll have much of an issue since the newer motors seem to have incorporated most of the previous fixes, one being an exhaust temp issue. I have a single 2006 250 Etec, it came off the same boat as yours (29 Hydra) with your same prop setup. The fella went from the 3 blade Vipers to the 4 blade Cyclones and loved them. I'm pretty sure he had the standard rubber hubs, the 3-blade Vipers definitely had them. The newer props I believe have the TBX hubs (a hard plastic type) in place of the rubber ones. In any case, if you do end up with a spun hub, you just replace the hub with the new style vice replacing the whole prop (my local prop shop replaces a hub for about $50 out the door). I'm running a rubber hubbed Cyclone on mine now, no issues. By the way, he was running 21" props instead of the 19" you've got. Check that you're not revving too high with the 19s, you may want to bump up to the 21' if that's the case.

Sub....

Thanks very much for the info. It is much appreciated.

I have been told previously by others that the four blade would be an exact size exchange over the three blade. Now you have me wondering....... I'll need to do some more research.

Thanks again for the help. This is what the forum is all about, people helping people.

Dave

Propping is 100% trial and error. Now the old rubber hub cyclone's will be just fine on your your engines. The 2005 large ETEC's have a service bulliten about burning out hubs. This probles was fixed with the 2006 model year. The 4 blade cyclones should bring your RPM's down from what you were getting with the Vipers.

Thanks for the info Capt.

I will try to look up the bulletin just to get the skinny on the fix.
