Default Which Racor for 1998 Johnson 225 OceanRunner

I need to replace my Racor, which was mounted deep in the bilge and has become very corroded. It uses filter 3213, but the mounting head has 4 ports (one in, one out on each side), which I will need to mount the new unit in a better place. However, the Racor site doesn't show a 4-port head for that filter, only a 3-port with one port each on the left/right/front sides.

In order to mount the filter where I would like to, I need a mounting head that has an input and output port on the same side. Which unit will fit the bill? The 660 series seems to have 4 ports, but this seems like a way too big filter for my needs. I have a single Johnson 225 2-stroke fed with a 3/8" fuel line.

Thanks for the help.

You best bet for all around use is to buy and install a stainless steel filter bracket (head) for either the standard Merc style or the Johnson-Evinrude style to prevent future corrosion problems. That way you get the 4 ports to make plumbing easier.

You can then use the genuine Racor 10 micron filters with the bowl for catching water in the gas. For the Merc style bracket use the Racor #B32013 bowl and filter kit, then in the future use the #S3213 Racor filter replacements.

For the Johnson-Evinrude bracket, use the Racor #B32014 bowl and filter kit, then the #S3214 replacement filters.

Now you can have the best of both words, plus you can also use the inexpensive $8 regular spin-on filters should you ever want to.

Thank you. I didn't realize that the Racor filters would fit other manufacturer heads. I suspect that is what I have now, although I can't read any part of it due to the corrosion. It must not have been stainless steel. Do you offer the stainless steel units? I already have a few spare 3213 filters, and I have the clear bowl that attaches to it (must be the 32013 kit), so I would need just the mount. My fuel lines are 3/8", so I guess that a mount with the same size ports would be ideal.

Also, my current filter is mounted low in the bilge......lower than the fuel tank so of course I get a mess when I change filters. I was thinking of mounting it up higher than the fuel tank for easier access, but I don't know if that will affect the fuel delivery to the engine. There is a pump ball between the filter and the engine. Would that be enough to pull fuel up to the filter and then on to the motor, or should I leave the filter down low with perhaps a valve at the filter to stop the flow when I need to change filters?

Since you already use the S3213 filters, that means you have the standard Merc style filter head (bracket). Go to a marine store and buy the stainless steel version and mount it even or above your fuel tank level. Then go and enjoy your boat.
