Basic troubleshooting has to be performed to check the motor's condition-compression, spark intensity, carburetor condition, engine temperature, linkage adjustments, timing, etc.
This information is found in the factory service manuals.
Most idle problems are from stale fuel deposits that plug up or restrict the passageways inside a carburetor and/or gummed up recirulation valves and fittings. This usually shows up in the spring during one of the first few runs of the season. Not winterizing the motor properly and not using a good fuel conditioner are common causes.
IF you are mechanically inclined and have the tools, literature, and understanding of the motor, go for it. If not, hire a trained professional who specializes in your particular motor.

I'm leaning toward a fuel prob, since this past winter was the first time the engine (and boat) has ever been winterized. To start this Spring, the fuel filter and bowl had quite a bit of water and questionable looking fuel. A new filter and the engine seemed to run fine. But after a day's run, back to the same problem (won't idle) again. Could it be more of the same? More water in the fuel?
Topped off the tank (110g) and added StarTron stabilizer before winterizing last Fall.

Now that you tell us that there was water and trash in the fuel, remove the air box and unscrew the brass "plugs" on the bottom of each carb and let the bowls drain. Squeeze the primer ball a few times to help force out any water or debris from the carbs. As long as the o-rings are in good shape, re-install the plugs. See if that helps your idling. Be sure to use a lot of rags to catch the drained fuel, and do the job outside with no smokes, flames, pilot lites, etc. around.

Thanks, A1, I'll try this.
And I plan to run the Seafoam Deep Creep application to de-carb the engine.
Hopefully, this will solve the problem.
