2001 Yamaha 250 OX66's - The Hull Truth

I am in the process of purchasing a 2001 model year boat with Yamaha 250 OX66's.
I have a survey set up for March 23.
The surveyor is going to take compression readings on all the cylinders as well as a visual inspection along with a sea trial.
I have never purchased a used set of outboards and would like some info on what to look for during the survey.
If the survey goes well I plan on taking the boat on a 100 mile ride back to where it will be docked for the season.
Since my knowledge is very limited on these particular outboards are there any service issues I should be looking for?
Also I plan to have the water pumps and impellers changed before making the trip is there anything else that should be done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A surveyor is not an engine mechanic and can only check obvious items, and gives no expectations that the motors are good.

Hire a trained Yamaha tech, famiiliar with those motors, to give them a thorough checkover including fuel pressures, O2 sensor voltages, etc. You could spend over $1000 per motor just to get them to run correctly if they have been neglected, poorly maintained, or never "winterized" correctly.

Find out the previous owner if your buying from a dealer, talk about what maintenance has been done ,how many engine hours, last lower gear case oil change, last set of plugs. I have this same engine and its great but requires maintenance. Do yourself a favor and get the clymer work service manual and it explains the testing of sensors of this computer controlled engine. Expect to burn a hundred gallons of gas on your trip ,if you can get on plane that is. Assuming you have two engines that is.

I am buying boaqt from original owner and he had one of the yards in Cape May do the work. I am trying to get that info.
Anyone down in Cape May that you would recommend to look at the engined before I take delivery?
