Default Yamaha 2004 carb. 50 hp 4 stroke.

I am having an issue with the way my motor starts. when i initially go to start it the starter engages just like it should and then 1-2 seconds it disengages before the motor starts. Therfore i have to turn the key 3,4,5,6 times before it actually starts. When the motor is warm it usually starts instantly. Please help.

I am having trouble understanding your problem. I think the engine may be firing on one or two cylinders causing the starter to kick out. If it were a starter problem it would happen hot or cold. The problem may be with enrichment system or it may be failing to advance the timing for starting and warm up. Watch the timing with a light while cranking and let me know what it is doing. Mr. J
