Re: Does it hurt to run a Yamaha F225 at low rpms ? The engine should not be harmed if you are running those rpm's with a light load. But if you are loaded heavily, in other words the throttle is wide open or nearly so, you could be damaging the engine. It is important if run at low rpm's that you change your oil and filter more often than the factory 100 hour recommendation. You should also be sure to use only FCW rated oil not automotive oil. Auto oil does not contain anti corrosive and extra pressure additves that marine four strokes require because of their lower operating temperatures.
