Opti 225 Idle issue - The Hull Truth

My port 2001 225 Opti will not idle down sometimes. It will hang at 1200. This is an intermittent issue as about half the time it runs perfectly. All other things are the same between the two engines. Same fuel tank. All smartcraft readouts appear to be the same throughout the full range of the motors. Also, it doesn't seem to have any other issues running, just the idle issue.

Sorry for the delay but our merc expert is on vacation Ill see what I can do .It might be as simple as a cable adjustment or a controller issue. Try pulling the throttle back quickly see if that helps if it changes it it means a inconsistent throttle plate setting is occurring this is most likely caused by dirt,improper spring pressure or cable adjustment. You might want to spray some spray cleaner or the throttle plate and the connecting shaft...MrM

Thanks, I didn't mean to complain I was just wondering. Is there anyway I can check it without running the engine? It is back in storage in Michigan now and I won't be able to run it for another month or so. Are there any visual checks I can do with it out of the water or should I just wait until I put it in the water?

Ok look at the butterfly with someone running the throttle to see if it return to the same position when throttled back....MrM
