Default Any info on the "Mercury" (yamaha) F225s?

I'm curious about the Mercury F225 - the one that is a rebadged yamaha.

When it comes to rigging and gauges, is it all merc? Would a Mercury F225 be 100% compatible with rigging for a late model optimax? Smartcraft, etc? Props?

I can get a pair of the Mercs for $$ thousands cheaper than any similar motor, but want to know just how screwy the install might be... Since it'll be no small task to modify my bracket to hang the wide motors.

Mercahaha will not be compatible with smart craft or smart craft gages .If you have analog gages they will work as well as the prop with a adaptor kit from Mercury.Late 2005 Mercury 4 stroke and newer are not Yamaha ..Mr T

What are late 2005-2006-2007 225s then?

Even the page here at merc: http://www.mercuryoutboards.com/225_efi3
looks an awful lot like the specs here at yam: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard...s/1/specs.aspx

Can't be a coincidence that they both weigh 583 lbs and have a 3352cc block...

So you'd rig a Mercury 225 "Four Stroke" as if it were a Yamaha? Will Yam gauges work then??

The newest 4 strokes are Mercury made, and you can rig them smartcraft . The early 225 are rigged as a Merc without smartcraft.
